Do I Even Need to Do This?

Here's the deal: I last serviced the Turbo 400 in my '69 4-4-2 five years ago. I've put on less than a thousand miles a year since then. Do I need to service it now? The CSM says every two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. Well, the two years is obviously up, but just as obviously it's been nowhere near 24,000 miles. Before I go and make a godawful mess all over the garage floor again, I wanna know what you guys think. Is this really necessary?

Don't waste your time.

You can leave these things for decades with no discernable problems.

As long as the fluid is still cherry red, I'd leave it alone.

Take the easy way out.

Get a MityVac Fluid Extractor, and suck the pan dry thru the dipstick tube....zero mess.

Do this once a year, and save the filter swap for every 5 years.

I do this to my daily drivers every other oil change.

Keeps fresh fluid in the pan, and extends transmission life.

This method does not get all the fluid out, but refreshes what is in there.

Thanks, guys. I'll leave it be for now. And when I do service it, I'll look into a MityVac -- I've heard good things elsewhere, too.
