diesel th350 behind a gas engine?
has anybody tried a diesel turbo 350 behind a gas 350 engine? the tranny in granny green is acting up and i have a turbo 350C out of an '81 delta 88 diesel that would make a good stopgap while i decide what i want to do in regards to rear end ratio and possibly installing a 200 4r tranny.
i suppose i should tell ya what GG is doing. when the tranny is cold to warmish it acts perfect but when the tranny is hot/up to temp it doesn't want to release the foreward drive, ie if you put it in neutral it will still creep foreward and if you try reverse it binds up pretty severely. it's got fresh fluid, seafoam trans tune, and a B&M supercooler. when i installed the B&M cooler i bypassed the factory cooler... as long as you want to go foreward i think it'd run forever but if you wanna back up you better let the ol girl cool down.
any advice, info or observations would be greatly appreciated!

You can put it in, and it should work if you leave the lockup unplugged.
You have to use the 350C converter though, which will slip around when you're on the highway.
The 350C lock up system sucks anyway. The torque converter clutch can apply in all gears, thus stalling your engine out sometimes when you put the trans into gear while the vehicle is at a stop.

hmm... that doesn't sound so good. i see where superior offers a kit to make it a std. turbo 350, that might be the way to go... i've been doing some searching on the web and had read some positives about having the lock up but i didn't realize it was that primative, i figured that it had a switch or some type of interface that would only allow it to work in 3rd gear... much like the 200 4R's 4th gear switch...
To convert a lockup to a regular th350:
-You will need a non lock up pump and stator and input shaft
-Will need to drill a hole in the correct location for a drain back in the stator( pump cover) or it will ruin the front converter seal.
- block the lock up valve in the lockup valve body.
- plug the hole in the lock up valve body where the solenoid bolts on.
-plug the case connector hole with a 7/8" plug after removing the plastic connector.
More trouble than its worth.
You could probably find another working trans for $150 from a local part out.
