Decoding TH400 Plate Number

Hello.

The side plate on a TH400 transmission I may be purchasing has the following code: 73-P2D 69117. If possible, can someone please decipher the code, as the two letter designation code is no longer legible.

The transmission is connected to a 1970 455 with E heads. Not certain if transmission is correct for engine.

Thank you for your help with this matter.

Thank you for your help.

Do you know what the rest of the code means, besides the 73? Did not know that each division had their own code for their own transmissions. The first two digits on Pontiac codes do not mean the year of manufacturer, as that is encrypted in the following three digits, even though the two digits would seem to signify a year.

I'm not entirely sure on this one, but i'm gonna say it's a TH-375 (i.e. "light-duty" TH-400) from a 1973 Pontiac.

If it's a TH-375, it will have "THM375" (or something like that) cast into the tail housing.
