I've got a guy offering to trade me what he described as a Doug Nash version of the Super T10 4 speed for a 1967 Cutlass Supreme project car. I've tried to sell the project car for $800 with no luck, and he claims this transmission is in cherry condition. I've just never heard of a Doug Nash 4 speed. Anybody familiar with them? Are they considered good gearboxes? My 1964 factory 4 speed Cutlass is missing both the engine and transmission, so I plan to put in a 455 4 speed that won't be numbers matching. His transmission has the large output shaft like the TH400 and he says it's built better than factory. Any thoughts? John

 

I'm not familiar with the transmissions but have heard of them all over the place for a long time and they're supposed to be one of the best. Going by what normal T-10s go for I would say it's got to be worth way more than 800 bucks? If you trust that it's good it sounds like a deal both ways. Personally I would have it checked out before doing anything, I trust nobody with stuff I can't see, hear, or feel run like that.
I've had a few "cherry condition" paperweights over the years, a couple were car size.

 

I have heard of a Doug Nash five speed...they're supposed to be bullet proof...

 

You need to ask him if its Pro-Shifted, or still has sycronizers...
If its Pro-shifted its tricky to shift on the street...

I have heard of them but do not know much about them. I would see if you can at least take off the side cover and check it out.

 

I think I'd stick with a Muncie or ST-10. I got an old Doug Nash 5 speed and some of the parts are hard to find. You better do some research before commiting to buy it.

Doug Nash modified t10 years ago for racing, he then designed his own trans for better strength . Richmond Gear bought Doug Nash several years ago , they may have info on the t10 or if they are making parts for them. The fellows who raced them in our club hoarded parts seems they were getting scarce back then.

 

ive had a doug nash 4 sp on my shelf for approx 2 yrs waiting for the ritr car to put it in so im sad to say i havent found the rite car and sold it to one of my customers for 2500.00 installed all parts and it runs like a dream behind a 450 hp 454 bbc you want go wrong with a doug nash trust me

 

The only Doug Nash trans I've seen had to have the matching linkage, which was real expensive back then.
Ifit includes the linkage, and he'll let you look into the side cover for damage, I think it'd be worth it!
