Another Jetaway to T350 Question

This question is about putting a T350 in a 1965 Cutlass with a 330/Jetaway.

I've read many threads about replacing the Jetaway with a T350, T400 or 200R4 trans, but I still have a question. Its probably an obviously simple answer and I just didn't pick it up it he other posts. If I replace the Jetaway with a T350, will a T350 torque converter bolt up to the 330 flexplate?

There seem to be a lot of folks on this forum that are much happier with their cars after replacing the Jetaway trans. I am getting ready to pull the engine and trans out of the car to clean everything up, and I also have an Olds T350 sitting around that I pulled out a previous car. Is it a better first gear, or overall better torque multiplication that makes this swap desirable? Is this a no-brainer in your opinion since I have the trans. I should add, the Jetaway in my Cutlass works as designed now. That is, the variable vane function is still operating as it should.

TH-350 Kickdown Bracket & Cable is the only issue to be aware of. As far as making the swap desirable to me its not the torgue , it is the extra third gear shift... especially on the freeways. The torque converter bolts up to the flywheel the same. No worries there, your orig 65 carb will have to either get an after market type cable assy or rig one up yourself. Some have changed the gas peddle assy to a 69- 72 type with cable. I would go with something like this ... "Standard adjustable GM detent (black housing) with Lokar's stainless mounting bracket mounts onto the two back manifold bolts. Designed for 4 barrel-type carburetors for small block Chevys. Kit includes extender for more versatility in adjusting cable length where needed"

Both the Jetaway and the TH350 have a 1:1 final gear. There is NO difference on the freeway. The only difference will be off the line. The 2.52 first in the TH350 vs the 1.76 first in the Junkaway. Only an overdrive trans will make a difference on the freeway.

Years ago I swapped a Powerglide for a TH350 in my brothers 283 powered 64 Impala. No other changes. You would swear the car had another 75 horsepower, just from the lower 1st gear ratio. Made the car much more fun to drive. A 2004R trans is the best of both worlds, a even lower 1st gear, and a overdrive to loaf down the highway. How deep are the pockets? A TH350 is a easy bolt in.
