69 cutlass starting with lever on D or R
My 69 Cutlass Supreme (TH 400 transmission) is not supposed to start with the (floor)lever on D or R but it does and I almost had an accident because of this.
What do I need to check to solve this problem ?

The factory floor shift cars for 1969 still used the neutral safety switch on the shifter. Remove the console and see if the NSS is working properly. Do your backup lights work? The same switch controls them as well. This may be as simple as a switch out of adjustment or the spring pin that connects the switch actuating link to the shifter backed out.

Is this a factory floor shifter or was it converted from a column shift?
