69 442 with T-10 Trans
69 442 with T-10 Trans
Just got a 69 442 all numbers match except the trans. Second last owner changed it to the T-10. Question: will it have any trouble with the torque of my 400 being driven hard?Suggestions/merits of alternatives eg. Saginaw,Muncie as I don't want to learn the hard[expensive]way. Thanks,derek
It's a T10 and not a Super T10? We have used ST10's with cars that ran in the 11's and they held up pretty well. We blew up a Richmond 2.88 first gear tranny last summer with some merciless 5500 rpm drop the clutch hole shots. The 2.88 is known to be weaker. Your 69 in stock form should run well into the lower 14's which probably eliminates the Saganaw and T10 holding up under severe hole shot launches with drag tires. A good old Muncie M20 with a 1" pin should hold up just fine. It seems your options are either run your t10 and keep your fingers crossed and have a little mercy at the track or pull it out and sell it and find a Muncie.

Thanks Dave for that info. Guess you're into the drag race scene.I'm not going to race per se,just want to leave my next door neighbour behind in his 1970 396 SS Chevelle! How can you tell WHICH T-10 model you have? Tried to go to the Borg Warner website with the #'s cast on the tran, but no luck. derek

W Machine, that was a great site you directed me to! Next question:The exchange , duty and shipping kills us Canucks, so does anyone know of a Canadian Muncie source? Buffalo is only 2 1/2 hours away if there's a shop in that locale[ could drive down and smuggle it back...so much for "free"trade!] derek
ST-10 swap and new rear end
Found a Canadian Muncie shop....only 3,500 miles away! Want to drive my 442 this summer eg. up to the cottage,but also want some low end action. Found out the rear has a 2.56 in it[see my dilemma in 442 forum] and wonder if a 3.23 or 3.42 setup would work,independent of a change to M-20 or not. Not running 1/4 miles, so you slick-shods keep that in mind with your suggestions ! Thanks,derek
All around driving I like the 3.23 or 3.42 and think you'd be happy with either one. 3.91 would be a kick, but running down the freeway winds the engine up higher than I care to for an extended period. I had a 4 speed with a 3.08 once and I think it was too tall. My 2 cents. John
