Question 66' 425 trying to make it manual

I'm trying to take the 400 trans. off and put a 4 speed manual behind it but the out put shaft is to long on the 4 speed. Do I need to change cranks or have it drilled out to get it to fit?

Question

Not to the back of the trans, the clutch side. The pilot hole in the crank won't allow them to go together. I know the drive shaft needs to be changed.

Does the crank have a removeable pilot bushing ? ,If not you will have to change front shaft on trans

Stick cranks are not the same as auto. They are drilled deeper and have provision for a pilot bearing. Mondello sells a bushing that will go into an auto crank but most likely the crank still needs to be drilled deeper for the tip of the input shaft on the trans to go in and not hit the crank. There is info on 442.com that shows specs. on this. Also the clutch disc needs to be lined up perfectly or else the trans wont go all the way in.

I have hand drilled the crank about 3/8 inch in. I started with small drill in dead center and worked my way to the drill size big enough for the input shaft. Used the adapter brg. and put it altogether. You need a longer drive shaft. Make sure you get the correct yoke for your trans. There is two models, a T-400 size or a T-350 size.
