4spd Shifter Off Center

Got a question about my 65 442. The shifter appears to rest to the right of center in the neutral position between 3rd and 4th gear, instead of the neutral position between 1st and 2nd gear.

Just wondering what might be the cause of this and how I might go about fixing it.

Car shifts just fine.

Thanks in advance.

Does your 65 have the original Muncie shifter or a Hurst shifter? I can't speak to the Muncie, but that's normal for a Hurst Competition Plus. The shifter is spring loaded to the right to make the 2-3 shift faster.

@joe_padavano Not sure if it's a Muncie or Hurst shifter, any way to tell by looking at it or would I need to dig a little more into it to be able to tell which one I have?

Muncie was standard equipment on the 1965 four speed cars. Hurst was 1966-up, or aftermarket. The easy way to tell is from underneath.

Muncie shifter looks like this:

The Hurst looks like this:

Note that factory Hurst shifters used a snap-in stick. Aftermarket versions use two bolts to hold the stick.
