4L80E w/new valve body

Hi all. I'm having a 1996 4L80E built to put behind my 455". I'm told that i can have a new valve body put in that will eliminate having to use the Electronic controller. It's about 1/2 the price of the controller. anyone have any experience with this situation? How it works? Will it shift harder, etc.? Thanks. WFG4U@aol.com. Bill;.
