I have no clutch assy. present at all, but what is this hole? I thought this car was an automatic.

Looks like a factory hole with the tranny hump installed on a 69 and prior car. Only thing missing is the seam sealer around the hole. Every 66 4 speed that I have dissassembled always has seam sealer around the metal to metal edge.

Didn't mention the year sorry

My car is a 1969 442. Trans was gone and the motor has been swapped out.

Will a 4 speed from a mid 70's Camaro bolt onto a Olds engine?

I would not bother with the Saginaw. There are plenty of correct 69 M21's floating around, for a little more money.

Thats not a bad price if its good they are not that bad of a tranny the m-21 maybe a bit stronger but its all in what you want to spend and as far as chevy goes its a GM tranny there are diff gear spacing that you can tell from looking at the number of rings machined into the input shafts. If you plan on hammering on it the M-21 will last longer Ive seen them sell from$600 to $1200 for a rebuilt at swap meets

Definitely not behind a 455. Saginaws are very weak. Gey a Muncie or T10.

It is not unheard of for someone to convert a manual trans car to an automatic. Does the trans VIN derivative match the car? Is the bracket for the clutch equalizer shaft (the Z-bar) still present on the frame? Is the ball stud still on the side of the block?

I may be wrong here but a T-10 shifter location will not exactly match that hole in the floor.

The red car in my sig had a manual to auto conversion done. Someone welded a plate over the manual hole, cut another on top for a auto shifter, and removed the clutch pedal.

The frame pivot, rod boot still on the firewall (plus the hole for the rod to pass thru) and that hole under the plate told me the car was a stick when new.

Yes, It is part of the clutch setup... It is the frame bracket for the outer pivot of the Z-Bar.....

Thanks you all for your help. This input has changed my mind on the set up of the car. I was planning on putting a TH400 auto into it because I thought that's what it came with. But now I know I MUST go back with a 4 speed trans and either the 400 or a 455. I know the car should have came with a 400 in it too.
