350 Turbo Slipping--Need Some Help Please

I have a 350 turbo in my 1972 cutlass, just about every yime i crank it it's like it takes minute to build up enough pressure to go in to gear. Sometimes if i gas it a little it will catch quicker. I was wondering if my trans is need of rebuilding or if anyone thinks it could be a clogged filter or something.

Thanks, Mike

If its low on fluid it will do that. Also could be over full and the fluid is frothing and full of air, but I think you would know that by now.

And, it could mean your tranny is going......to the repair shop$

You could do a filter and fluid change, but I don't think its going to help it.

A filter can definitely make it slip. The filter and a few quarts of fluid are cheap. It is one of my least favorite jobs because it always makes a mess and tranny fluid stinks. When you have the pan off, look for metal shavings in the pan. If you are planning on keeping the car, spend about 10 buck for a drain plug kit and it won't be near as messy the next time. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I drove it aroung long enough to check the trans fluid today and it was pt low so i added fluid. I never noticed any leaks on the pavement so I am not sure where the fluid went, but it is shifting great now with no slipping when I first crank it. I will for sure be dropping the pan sometime and checking for shavings since i will soon have fresh rebuilt motor in the car.

Bad vacuum modulator could be sucking trans fluid into engine. Pull the vacuum line at the modulator and check for trans fluid there. If so, replace the modulator.
