1964 394 Olds Transmission Conversion
Well I'm seriously thinking doing the conversion to a TH350 or something you can get anywhere these days.
Should I go TH350 or something else? Tanson & Harry do the conversions for $849.00 plus $165.00 for the trans side mounts. He wants 50% deposit to start.
This will be going in a 1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 Convertible. I need to freshen up the paint on the engine, which I figured I would do when I install the new converted transmission.
Will I need to modify the transmission hump? What would you do if you were in my case?

Roughly the same work is involved making any 1965-later trans fit that engine, so it's your call. The bell and starter shrouding has to be cut back to bolt it to the early Rocket.
Depending on your rear gearing, I'd consider a properly built 200-4R to get overdrive, or I guess a 700 might fit too. If your rear gear is taller than 3.08 I'd go with a T-350 as tall gearing and OD might make that 394 lug more than it needs to.
KQQLCAT put a Ross Racing transmission conversion in a 61 D88 and had some pretty detailed pics of what he did. I think he did have to do some surgery on the hump, but with a D88, you can get away with it because you don't have to worry about a console fitting after modding the hump. Ross has the best adapter plate I've seen for this job.
Look at it this way. If you can get a more modern trans converted and mounts for a grand and can install it yourself, you're still money ahead of having a Slim Jim rebuilt properly. Question- is the $850 quote just for the case modification, or does it include a rebuild? I'm thinking probably not.
