1955 Hydra-Matic question

Hello All

Please forgive me if this is a dumb question; transmissions are definitely not my forte. Does anyone know if the slant pan type Hydra-Matic from a 1955 Pontiac is the same trans that was used in the 1955 Olds? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks

Dan

This is just a poorly educated guess but I would think the bell housings would be different, same transmission other wise, not a direct bolt up.... Tedd

According to the flat rate/parts manual, it looks like it's somewhat identical, with part numbers being the same, except front planet carrier, drum, rear planet carrier, and some other small parts. Even the transmission case interchanges.

Hollander shows different numbers for the flywheel and torus units; also different for the "identical" transmission units. My Hydra-matic service manual shows the '55 Pontiac as a model 55-P and the '55 Oldsmobile as a model 55-R. So, as has been said, some things are different.
