I need to replace my broken dipstick tube but everything I seem to find listed for a 455 says except Toronado. I called Mondello and the guy told me that one that they sold will work but i am not positive that it will. does anyone know where to find new one or even a good used?

 

Try summit racing that is were I found one. They have several to choose from.

 

I also purchased a chrome one for my 1970 toro 455 at summit! The imprints on the stick of full and add where a little different but it worked great! Good luck!

 

Do not get the Mr Gasket chrome one. I have one and it doesn't fit in the block, it's waaay too loose.
I just installed a TransDapt chrome one today. I had to file down the middle ring a bit in order to get it to go in.
I mic'd the original tube and filed down the new one until it was a tad bit larger than the stock one. I added some black RTV and drove it in. Time will tell if it leaks, but as of now, I'm feeling pretty sure it won't.

 

The reason the ones for the Toro are different is due to the design of the exhaust manifolds on the Toro. I think it needs to be taller up top to clear.

 

The trick is that the tube and the dipstick need to match. You are unlikely to find a correct Toro dipstick tube, especially from aftermarket sources like Summit. You may find one that fits, but the length will likely be off. If you are forced to use one of these, drain the oil, refill, run the engine for a while to distribute the new oil, shut it off and let the oil drain back, THEN pull the dipstick and scribe a mark at the correct oil level.

 

Thanks for the information, lucky for me i found a nos dipstick tube. at least that is what the guy said he has a gm 400712 so we will see when it gets here.

 

I did get my dipstick tube, but my original one out of my engine is 20 1/2 inches long and the one I bought is only 20 inches. So it must not be a Toronado dipstick tube, I think it will work but how much will it affect the level on the dipstick?

 

Do what joe said and you'll know where the correct amt is on the stick

 

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the level will be off by 1/2".
