Was the mounting hole in the fender for these lights flanged or rolled or was it just cut out with no reinforcement in it? Planning on installing them on standard fenders installed on a deluxe. Pics would be helpful. Thanks

 

I believe it was just cut without any rolling to the edge. I think I have a 1967 Toronado fender with these holes in them. I'll try to get some pictures for you. John

Here's some pictures. Years ago I cut the back third off this fender as the person needing it didn't want to pay to ship the entire fender. I'd be willing to cut the bottom off the front for $10 plus shipping if you wanted to have a pattern. Or I can take a few photos with a tape measure if that would be close enough for you. John

I bought my 67 with replaced, used fenders installed, due to an accident. I was extremely lucky to find a pair of NOS fenders with no cornering lights on eBay. As I took apart the lights on the original fenders, I could tell the holes were not factory cut just by looking at the inconsistencies in the edges. Even without holes so it was easy to layout new holes and cut them accurately. No, there was no framework in the fender, but the inner light housing is flanged and perfectly supports the fender once attached.
Two comments: first, the Toronado emblem location above these lights has different locations depending on factory installation. No lights and the emblem is further back, with factory lights, the emblem is centered above the light housing.
Second, we all know that the cornering light controller in the column is impossible to buy. And, in my opinion, in the 60's cars didn't have visible side turn signals like today's cars, probably due to today's traffic. So my cornering lights are now turn signals since the ones in the front bumper can only be seen from the front. Trying to keep the original look, but lower the risk of being run into. And in 66 my first father-in-law had a new 66 that I drove several times. I wasn't impressed by the cornering light illumination.

 

Thanks for your comments. The car im working on had all the options but was wrecked. Donor fenders came from a standard model. The script location does bother me but only an expert would notice the difference.

 

If you're restoring to enter shows, plug weld the holes on the replacement fenders, grind and finish, then drill new holes to center the emblem, paint the fenders and no judge can tell the difference.
