Toronado Rims

Hi guys,
I found a 66 parts car that I want to drag home. trouble is that it as been sitting a long time and the tires are rotten and I'm sure theres no hope of airing them up. My question is if I can lift the car and mount standard GM rims and tires on the car to get it on the trailer?

Thanks for the reply. Are you thinking the brake drums are larger and would interfere with the lack of offset that the toronado rims have?

If you're going to lift the car and remove the wheels, anyway, why not just take the rims over to a tire shop, have four new tires mounted, and put the original rims with new tires back on the car? You're going to need new tires eventually, anyway.

In the diagram below, the Toro's wheels are like the far left. The wheel mounting surface is so far to one side that it is practically in the same plane as the wheel's outer edge.

More conventional wheels are like the center or right-side images.

More conventional rims will mount if the bolt pattern is correct, but the tire will stick out well past the wheel openings because the conventional rims will not have the large positive offset that the Toro wheels do. You might have some difficulty getting the tire to clear the wheel opening, and you will likely have problems once the car is sitting on its own weight and the tops of the wheel openings rest against the tops of the tires. It may be difficult to push and possibly impossible to steer.

Just put new tires on the original rims and save yourself all the aggravation.

Or "borrow" the tires and wheels from your other Toronado to get it home. There IS a reason Oldsmobile didn't just use "B body" wheels.

This is a good idea to "borrow" the rims off my current car. On another note, I did a random search for sale items in my general area, and found a guy selling Toro parts from his '75-78 collection. Do these rims from 66-78 all work for toronados?

They work for all 1966 to 1978 Toronados. But not for 1979 and later.
