Repair of fuel gauge ( not showing correct amount )

The gauge doesn't accurately show ( doesn't work-stuck at 3/4 or so full ) how much fuel is in the car. What do I need to fix/replace to get operating correctly?
Thanks.

First you need to determine whether the problem is at the gauge or the sender. My money is its at the gauge. First check for power and proper ground at the gauge.

Fuel gauge stuck

Had the same problem in my 79 Toro, checked everything and it was the sending unit in the gas tank. Good luck

fuel tank sending unit

I never found out what year your car was however buick riviera, eldorado and Toro had the same unit. I found mine on ebay but had to cross reference the numbers from GM until I hit on the right one. Just make sure of the number of connections to the sender unit meaning the number of hoses that connect to it. Mine has emission return line with fuel return and output. Good luck, hope this helps ya.

So far I see two and am unclear if either or both, for that matter, work for a '70 Toronado.
TIA

I would go with the Jcaparts.com cause the Toro is considered a full size just like the others, however see what you can find regarding the Riviera and Eldorado and see if they come up the same.

Hello JonnyO. My son has a '69 (and '70 organ donor) Toro (from Alberta) and one of the first things we attempted to fix was an inoperative gas gauge. I removed the tank at least 6 times and even cannabalized a ' 70 sender unit to see how they operate. We finally discovered that the contacts had corroded completely away, and even after re-fabricating those, and feeling confident of the remedy, discovered the float material was saturated after 50yrs and no longer buoyant in the fuel. The sender is unigue in the '69 and '70 (can't speak of other years) as it's a closed can(nister) unit. After fruitless self-attempts at re-building the unit, I found this company in NY (we're in NS Canada, so all costs from the US are at least 30-40% more) and they created a new unit that has been working fine for almost two years now. Sorry to be wordy in getting you a source but I thought the experience worth telling. Here ya go if you need them: Tri-Starr Radiatorswww.tristarrradiator.com Tri Starr LLC 267 Neal Rd. North Pitcher, NY 13124
