Just getting towards the end of the refurbishment of my '66 Toronado trunk and back seat. When I pulled the rear bottom seat, the small carpet section that goes up the floor and then under the seat didn't appear to be secured to anything and it was kinda flopping around. Is it supposed to be glued down or something? See my picture below:
I found the same with mine. I don't believe there was any kind of glue holding the carpet in place, though a spot of it here and there would probably not hurt much when reinstalling.
I agree with Bob. It seems your rear carpet doesn't want to necessarily stay in place, so a dab or two of some adhesive would fix that issue. If you're worrying about correctness of restoration, the adhesive would be out of sight, whereas the loose carpet is in plain view. Those are my thoughts at least.
Ok good advice thanks everyone. I'm getting close to having the rear end cleaned up and things are looking a lot better. I found an old newspaper under the carpet today and it appears to be a Detroit publication. Given that this car spent its entire life in California and then Newfoundland, I would hazard a pretty good guess that the GM employee who put the carpet in the car left his newspaper section in there. Appears he/she was interested in the stock market, the obituaries, and the local movies.
