Rear Leaf Spring Bushing upper 1970 Toro

hey guys,

any idea where i can get a set of those rear leaf spring bushings (see pic)?

the product that steelerubber sells is way too small

rockauto is listing this bushing as a correct replacement but this is a metal-sleeved-type bushing and the car came with full rubber bushings on the shackles:

Amazon.com: Moog SB298 Rear Leaf Spring Bushing: Automotive Amazon.com: Moog SB298 Rear Leaf Spring Bushing: Automotive

thanks

Kanter, Fusick or U.S Parts Supply. I think I got mine from the latter. They are Moog brand. They were for my 59 Olds, they may have them for your car.

thanks for your reply.

but a 59 olds is not a 70 toronado. i've checked all the usual suspects but none of them seem to have the rear upper shackle bushings.

i got a mail from steelerubber where they insist that their bushings will fit...how can they fit when the factory diameter is 1-5/8" while the steelerubber part is only 1-3/8"?

I know a 59 Olds is not a 70 Toronado.

I was only giving some suggestions of where to look as these companies supply many different year Oldsmobiles.

Good luck.

Do you have spring shops in your area? They can probably help you out.

didn't checked yet..still arguing with steelerubber about the fitment they advertise for this particular part. they are like "it fits 1970 eldorado so it will fit 1970 toronado, period."

gonna take the exact measurements of the part i pulled and hopefully they can arrange to make a custom bushing

I had a look in my parts catalogue to see if anything is interchangeable for you, but no luck in my book, doesn't go to the 70's.

J.C Whitney advertise them with the metal sleeve also. Another place to try.

Just wondering, is there a chance someone before you may have used an incorrect part just all rubber to do the job?

Hopefully a Toronado person will drop in.

I would measure ID/OD and see if a set can be matched up. There should be some available off the shelf.

a guy over at toronado.org forums checked his 1st gen toro too and he also confirmed the use of the full rubber type bushing.

Maybe I am looking wrong ,but in post # 1 ,the attachment photo, the bushing there seems to have a metal sleeve and not just a rubber bushing. If not ,why would they call it a bushing assembly? Was that illustration from GM or from Mo-og? The only company that I found showing all rubber bushings for a '70 Toronado rear leaf spring was (Steel Rubber Products). Best of luck, Larry

hey larry,

thats a GM illustration. MOOG recently answered the following:

"yes you can replace full rubber bushings with the metal sleeved type, these are from the problem solver line which is one step OE spec"

but i don't see how i can remove them again later. metal sleeved bushing are supposed to be pressed in, right? those factory rubber came out pretty easy...

There is a company called Rare Parts in Stockton CA USA that specializes in suspension parts. If they don't have them, can't get them, they make them. Very knowledgeable. I am sorry I don't have a phone for them.
