finally starting on my 68 toro

this all started a couple years ago when i bought a non op toro from paratrooper501 as a frame/ floorpan donor for my first 66 toronado. when i got it (aside from some drunk bodywork), i found it too nice to canibalize. it needed typical quarter patches, fender patches (all had been cut out but new metal wasnt attached properly as it was pop rivited in), and bumpers (front was rusty, rear missing). Shame was that back in 08, it was still a decent looking original car (found the previous owner and talked to him about the car....he was floored it ended up in missouri and regretted selling it to "some redneck flippers down the road" and said "it made him sad to see what they did to it, and that he wondered what happened to it" my mechanic got it running and driving in a couple weeks in his free time (battery, new carb/ fuel line (cracked), and bled the brakes (had new parts all around and new fluid, but wasnt bled down). i then sourced a right front turn signal off ebay to replace the broken one. all that was left was taillights and a rear bumper (how hard could that be....right???)

Fast forward to a few months ago, and i found a guy in illinois over 2 hours away who had bought one as a father son project, bought a 1970 disc brake setup, pulled the engine, and thats as far as he got (dad bought a sweet 68 cutlass and son then wanted a cutlass as well to shove his built 455 into). yesterday i finally got time to pick it up. I paid 1050 for it plus 350 for the tow (not horrible I guess given total seat time was about 6 hours).

Was the engine a W-34 to match that rear bumper?
Now I see why you are parting it out. (I commented on FB. It looks like you won't have A pillars for me )
Did you get good tail lights out of the deal?

AFAIK, that was not a true w34 car. didnt have the CAI provisions that i saw. the P.O. said the motor wasnt correct for a w34, and the trans tag is not correct for a w34 (sadly).

That's not bad.
Pan is rusty where mine was; check the front (and rear) air plenum for holes. That and the leaking windshield were the main causes of rust in the front pan in my '66.
In fact, it had a hole over the fusebox..

Gotta love that "whipped cream" bondo treatment!

the drivers side window is stuck down 3" (windows wont work at all, along with everything in the interior but the dash gauges). and the rear drain hose flanges are gone. and yeah, for a toronado, thats not bad.

This sounds like it is going to be an amazing project. Even though the green one is not an original W34, you definitely still scored big time with the extremely rare 68 W34 rear bumper....
