'66 Toro Throttle Lever

'66 Toro Throttle Lever
The carb on my '66 Toronado is the correct 7026250 carb but with the incorrect throttle lever. This throttle lever doesn't have a provision for the kick-down linkage. I've been working with a carb shop in finding the correct lever but I'm having little luck. Would anyone have a good clear close-up pic of the correct lever so that I can share that with the carb guys? Anyone have the correct lever they would like to sell or share with this poor ole sap?

Hi Chris & Chris
Here's a picture from a 1967 Toronado. Sorry... my skills at editing photographs are not nearly as good as taking them with a camera
The throttle cable comes from the firewall and you can see the spring on it. Then there's a bent looking metal rod that almost touches the intake manifold below it. That runs from the kickdown switch to the carb just forward of where the throttle cable attaches. I'm pretty sure I've got an extra one of these rods, but will have to do some searching through boxes in the garage to find it. If nobody else comes up with one before the weekend please send me a PM reminder on Saturday. John

John,
Thanks for the pics and I appreciate your willingness to help each time I post. As for my car, I am looking for the correct throttle lever that is attached to the carb. I recently bought the correct carb and kick-down rod but can't attach the rod to the throttle lever. The carb shop is asking for a pic of the correct throttle lever so they can check their inventory. I was also hoping someone may have the proper lever that I can bolt onto my carb.

I dug through the garage and came up with a 1966 Toronado carb. I took pictures of several different angles, hopefully this will help your carb guy find the right one. If there are any other views that would help let me know. John

John,
You're amazing. You continue to surprise me and that is exactly what I'm looking for.
On your carb I noticed the throttle lever has a mounting screw just like the one on my new carb. Any chance you want to swap levers?

Let me sleep on it and let you know tomorrow. I've not messed with these early quadrajet carbs before. Is it just that one screw that holds the lever on? I believe the newer carbs are attached with the big crimped rivet thing.

That's fine and I appreciate your consideration. And yes, there is only that one screw that holds the lever to the shaft. I believe the wrench size is 1/4 inch. I included a pic of my lever in a prior post and this lever will simply bolt onto your old carb.

I was thinking that all 1966 carbs had the kickdown rod, and that the lever on your carb was from something newer. I'll likely never use this carb and it would be trade stock for me. My only concern was that without the lever it might be viewed as a parts carb. But if your arm was correct on other models then I'd have no hesitation trading. Let me do a little research.

well, that was easy
swap arms by unbolting
never that simple for me
I forgot about the reverse driving rod from carb to kickdown switch [KDS] as used on Toronados. That's why non-E-bodies don't need that extra carb arm tang- the driver's foot operates the KDS bellcrank, which also runs over to the carb by way of that rod. No throttle CABLE at all.
2blu- Looks like with the non-E-Body arm on there, you have a *442* core/ parts carb...
CARBURETOR, 4 bbl.,
1966 442 MT w/o K19 [A.I.R. - CA Smog system]
Orange Tag = 66 425 [& 400?] AT & MT per 1966 CSM

Cool! I was concerned swapping the arm might reduce the interest in it, and the ability to use it as trade stock. But it sounds like it may increase it instead! John

John,
Thanks. I'm really pleased by how well swapping levers worked for both
of us. I think we both won in this case. It's also probably one of the
very few success stories I've had with this car as every project was a
trial in perseverance and persistence. =20
Anyway, thanks again and I am and was very grateful.
