66 Toro Coupe or Deluxe

I've come across a 66 Toro that is immediately available. Waiting on BP info from seller. What to look for as quick failure items? Anything I should inspect carefully beyond the usual suspects?

The trans and the CV joints need to be inspected. The Comfortron AC if equipped should work. If not it can be tricky and expensive to repair. The AC system parts are rebuildable. Look closely at the A-pillars. This is a known rot spot. The headlight doors should work nicely. Check for trunk, wheel well, floor and frame rust. Check front suspension control arms for worn components. Replace brake soft lines and do a complete system bleed. Front and rear wheel bearings will likely be dry,

X2 on the headlights. Its common for the canisters that open the headlight doors to have rusted out springs inside. These are a one year only design.

Thank you. This is a driver on Coastal NC waters so I'm guessing the sea spray hasn't been kind. I know the paint has had it (Lucerne Blue Iridescent) but the interior is reportedly in good shape (black vinyl). I thought the Toros came with leather but perhaps those were later models. This has the bench seat with center pull down arm rest and manual windows. Was this model year offered with a vinyl roof?

No vinyl roof for 1966. First year for that was 1967.

No leather seats for 1966. First year for that was 1978, I think. It might have been a year or two earlier, but leather seats were not available in the Toro in the early years.

Vinyl or cloth seats in 66, as stated no leather. Coastal cars rot from the top down so give the A pillars a good look. Maybe even remove the inner interior pad for a good look. If you can see it on the inside chances are it has significant A pillar rot that could be bondo'd over?

Needs exhaust. Cans for headlights are OK. 53k 2 owner car. A pillar checks out. Trunk lock is broken (someone tried to pry in and busted it) and still have to see pan from inside. Priced right. AutoFair is 2 weeks away. Score on the price and a resale?
