Clasic Car CARFAX report

Does anyone out there know where I could track down the history of my car?

In Canada we can contact GM Vintage Vehicle Services as well as get Vehicle Abstracts from the local Ministry of Transportation.

Unfortunately there is not a whole lot you can do unless you are able to contact previous owners and they are truthful about it.

Does the DMV usually track the different owners?

As recently as 15 years ago in TX you could pay 15.00 and get a whole history of registrations in the state. Ever since all the privacy laws came about the state has done away with the service. Only way I know now is talk to previous owner to see where they got it and go to the next person and next. Some cars are easy and some are dead ends very quickly.

I paid $7 to the state of Michigan for a title search and they reported back with no information. And I had a Michigan title signed over to me. So, title searches are pretty much worthless.

I just did one for my Car here (Ontario) $12 and I got the entire owner history. Since the privacy laws came in though they don't supply the previous owners address or phone number though.

you know i was having the same problem and just gave up. It is really unfortunate because a lot of classic cars like ours have been well taken care of and it would be nice if we knew just more owner and details about its history. I think they should offer a program like that for vehicles older then 30 yrs.
