72 Olds 350 Supreme Engine ID
Having a problem in selecting an Engine ID sticker (on oil filler tube). I have a '72 Supreme w/ a 350 and automatic. Engine originally was a 2 barrel, but I have upgraded to a 4 barrel with all factory parts. What engine ID would this engine have from the factory (I am trying to match factory markings with this option upgrade)?
From the chassis manual, it appears that the Code QD would be applicable, except this option combo only appears to have come with a manual transmission.
In addition, two 2 barrel codes are listed with the Supreme, QB and QC. Does anyone know the difference?

John, here is the complete list from the assembly manual. Most likely you would use the QK code.
The supreme in 72 came standard with the 4bbl, but the first buyer got a $40 credit to downgrade to a 2bbl.
BTW, did you change the throttle cable? Do you know what the difference is between the 2bbl and 4bbl cables? Reason i ask is I am thinking mine is from a 2bbl.

When I did the swap, I changed the whole setup including throttle cable and throttle cable bracket at carb.
Amazing, anyone would think of a downgrade to a 2 barrel for a $40 savings. My car also has the optional bench seat. This was also an option, I believe, off the standard console/buckets etc. I would have preferred he left that box unchecked. Lol!

Lots of people downgraded carbs in hopes to save gas. However, if they would have just kept their foot out of it, there would be no difference and the power on demand would have been nice to have.
Yep, the bench seat with armrest was an option for the supreme. Seems a bit backwards to me; I would have preferred the buckets. However, many people liked benches back then, esp if they had big families. These intermediate size cars seat 6! How many new regular "big" cars can do that???
Brackets are pretty different. My 2 barrel was just a small angle bracket with attachment for throttle cable. 4 barrel bracket, mounts to back 2 bolts of carb. Depending on mounting holes locations on 2 barrel manifold (don't have it to compare - I got rid of it), geometry does not appear to be that different.
I have my old throttle cable in another bin that wasn't handy last night. I will try to dig out, but I do remember the length being different between the two. It wasn't radical, but there was a difference.
Do you need a 4 barrel cable/bracket? I am going to talk to someone about some parts later today.

A picture of the 2bbl bracket would be helpful, but I ~think~ I have the right bracket as it bolts on as you describe...
I might need it... My cable seems to be .5 to .75" too long. It will not pull open the carb's secondaries. Pedal goes to the floor instead. I have plans to crimp on another stop on the cable at the pedal to see how that works.
I am thinking my cable might have been replaced when the carb was replaced with a service carb and the wrong cable was used. The car did originally come with a 4bbl. The service carb has the same looking linkage, too.

Check Inline tube (www.inlinetube.com, 800.385.9452). They have repro 4 barrel throttle cables for $39. Bracket is also ther for $22 if you need it. Bracket picture matches mine exactly.
I checked with a parts guy I use, and he does not have an original.
