70 manual trans floor hump

I have another thread going about locating the 4 speed hump on a 70 vista and another member put up some pics of a 68. The problem is that fusicks piece doesn't look anything like the pics in the other thread. Which is correct for 1970

The 4 speed for 1970 to 1972 is different from the previous years. The parts place sells the correct part. Will you be using a console?

Montvale--Your second pic isn't a good reference as there isn't a shifter "hump" attached to the trans tunnel in that one.

The part in the first pic is also incorrect.....the factory (and correct repro) shifter "hump" doesn't have the flat top/plateau like the one in your pic.

As Joe mentioned...Parts Place sells a correct metal repro replacement.

Pic attached showing an original (Note..this one had screw holes around the base which probably shouldn't be there as the factory spot welded them to the trans tunnel)

For a console check with members here with a want ad. Use an automatic console and convert the console to a stick shift unit.

With the console, and the floor hump in place you should be able to estimate on where to start cutting the hole in the floor.

The factory cut the hole with a torch and it looks fairly ugly

OK, hopefully this won't be a thread hi-jack. I'm confused with what years got the hump in Patton's photo and what years were the flatter piece with the hole? I've got a 1964 that looks much like Patton's picture, yet I have a 1965 and three 68's with the flatter piece like the second photo. Sorry Montvaleplace, my 1970 was badly hacked by different transmissions spliced in through the years and I thought it was the same as the 1968. Did Oldsmobile go back in forth between the two different designs? John

The hump in the picture is for 70 to 72 with or without console. The nonconsole cars used only one boot that screwed to the hump, and when the car had a console it got a second boot in the console.

I have seen some early oldsmobiles with no hump and the boot was mounted to the floor.

hump

So are the pics and measurements of the hole good for 70 or not? I know 68 and 9 had a straight shifter and the console bumped over but the 70-2 had a curved handle that centered it on a straighter console. I'm thinking that the hole would be the same, it was just the bump out on the earlier console or the curved handle on the later ones. The transmission placement didn't change for either year and the shifter body was similar.Am I making any sense I'm confused.

Hump mounting location measurements

I know this is an old thread but couldn’t find a new one. I have purchased the correct manual transmission hump from parts place, I’m looking for location measurements for the hump on my 1970 cutlass it will be a console car. Also seat bracket measurements if possible. Having trouble finding this information. Thank you
