1970 cutlass suspension options

is it better to use a drop spindle or do shocks/springs for a 2" drop on a 1970 cutlass?

Drop spindles keep the suspension geometry at the design point with the car at ride height. Lowering springs move the neutral point "off center" so that you hit the bump stops much sooner. Also, keep in mind that the front suspension is designed to change camber of the front wheels over the suspension travel arc. It's designed to be at the correct camber with the control arms at the designed ride height location. Changing the spring height changes the control arm angle at ride height, changing the camber. You may or may not have enough alignment adjustment available to get back to the factory camber, depending on how much lower the springs are.

Now, I've cut about 1 full coil out of Cutlass front springs and been able to get the alignment correct. That drops the front about an inch to an inch and a half.

I had a set of heavy duty tubular upper and lower A-Arms installed on my 69 Cutlass and was not happy to see that it lowered the front a good 1 to 1.5 inches. Also when I took the car to get an alignment the told me they had to take all the shims out on one end of each side to get it to align.

I had eibach springs in my cutlass since 06 and there was no issues with alignment. Recently I installed tubular control and had no problems with them either.

that is part of what I want to do. go with the tubular control arms and either the drop spindles or springs. Also will be upgrading to power steering and a better brake setup.

I've seen that in A-Arms made in China!

I would go with springs, Eibach, BMR, Hotchkis or something along those lines. I like Eibach, great performance not expensive. I had them on numerous cars throughout the years. JMO

My Springs are Guaranteed Not to Sag, unlike another Brand that you mentioned.

I have Eibach on my chevelle since 2001, have them on the Cutlass since 2003, had them on few different Porsche's, my wife's AMG Benz, all with no problems.
Eibach has been race proven for decades.
