I will be looking to replace my shocks on all 4 corners of my 85 Delta 88 very soon (78k)

If money was no object I would go with some bilsteins because I have had a great experience with them on past rides and love the feel they have, but unfortunately it is.

What are some other shocks you guys suggest that don't cost a arm and a leg??? I am looking at the KYB GR-2 shocks because decent price but I don't know much about them performance wise.

 

If you ask 20 people thier opinion on shocks, you will get a varied amount of opinions. Monroe, Gabriel, KYB...of course Bilstein and Koni.

 

Not sure about the rear, as I have air shocks, but I just put KYB gas-adjust on the front of my 72 s....havent driven enough yet to judge, but if you go to partsgeek.com or i believe Summit, their price for gas adjust is in the 30 dollar range like the GR's. I assume the gas adjust are a step up from GR's.....I've only heard good things about them, so that is what I chose.

 

Since $$$ is an object, go with what you can afford now. Depending on use, most shocks last at least 5 years or more. Since they're not hard to change go with what you can afford now and down the road. I've had good luck with Monroe. I've also used NAPA gas shocks with good success.

85 Delta 88 is a fairly heavy car so get the best you can afford for now.

 

May be a dumb question but can you still get shocks from GM? If so how good are they?

 

I'll just add that you should use liberal amounts of anti-sieze on all the shock fasteners now to make that replacement easier in five years.

 

***UPDATE***

I decided to go with the KYB GR-2\Excel-G rear shocks got them from rockauto.com for a really good price. Upon installing the shocks I realized my old driver side shock was totally compacted would not release. Night and day difference now the rear of the car is tight to the ground and these shocks ride firm, very happy.
