I have been doing some research regarding switching my 1967 CS to a tilt steering column. Most of what I have read states the 1967 GM A body steering colums are all interchangeable. Is that correct?

If so, I should be ok with finding a Chevelle tilt, or similar, or purchasing a Flaming River tilt column, right?

I guess if I go that route, I might switch the shift from column to floor, too - interesting thought.

 

Yes, any A-body for 1967 will work. A lot of things interchange between 1966 and 67 but I don't know if the column does or not. Someone else who knows more about it than I do will have to answer that question. If you wanted to go to a floor shift this might be a good time. The floor shift tilt columns are more expensive than column shift. But everything would be a bolt on swap with only a small hole cut into the floorboard for the shift cable to run through. John

 

I believe pontiac is a direct bolt on chevy needs a little modification for 67
I know 66 and 67 columns are different though

1967 Chevrolet Chevelle and Pontiac Lemans is not the same! Buick Skylark and Olds Cutlass have provision for the shifter indicator quadrant in the dash, while the Chev-Pont style has it on top of the column just behind the steering wheel. This info applies to the column shift tilt style.

1966 "A" bodies are different not interchangable.

I think the '67 and '68 tilts are the same because they have the hazard flasher button on the side but not the '66...

 

I wouldn't use a 66 column. Diameter is slightly less and there is no provision on the underside at the instrument panel for the bracket to bolt to it. You'd have to wrap something around the column there, and use a 66 plate at the firewall. Most importantly, it will not collapse under impact. That 5' long solid shaft becomes a spear in your chest. You would also lose the flasher switch. The quarter moon wiring connector is different 66 to 67 (67 has one more hole), and wire order in the connector is different.

In 68, the column had a pot joint near the firewall with a short separate shaft to the steering box. The shaft could wiggle at that joint, allowing for misalignment and for using a column from one type of car with the steering box behind the wheels to another with the box in front of the wheels. Thus, you would pick the correct lower shaft for the car. The look is quite different under the hood from a 67. In 69, the ignition key went into the column.
