New Rag Joint?
New Rag Joint?
I did a full rebuild of my front suspension (bushings, balljoints, tie rods, centerlink, etc.) I also had the steering gear rebuilt and converted to a fixed 12.7:1 ratio. I'm vey satisfied with the quicker steering response, but the steering has alot of play at center and doesn't feel tightly connected to the steering wheel. I don't recall if I replaced the steering coupler or the rag joint. Would this cure my loose steering feel? Can I just replace the rubber disc or is it better to install a whole new coupler? And final question, are there any tricks when installing a new rag joint that would tighten things up? Just a rubber disc, better or more modern materials, oversized bolts, etc.?
Thanks
Rodney

Thanks for the comment. Well it's not the rag joint or the gear box. I made a short video this morning, as I turned the steering wheel slowly; the rag joint, and pitman arm all move in sync with the steering wheel, but I can turn the steering wheel quite alot before I see movement at the front wheels. I guess I'll need to spend some time under the car to see where the slop is coming from.
