Swapping rear ends, need input
Hey guys,
Looking for input on my soon to be swap for my Olds Faux 12 bolt getting yanked for my new REAL 12 Bolt. I want to drop the rear end housing but I was concerned whether or not I needed to compress the rear springs before dropping the axle or if it's safe to just slowly lower the axles housing without having a spring flying out at me ???
Also on installation of the new rear springs, do i need to compress them to go back in, or no ??
I have all new coil springs, new UCA's from UMI, and new shocks as well.

Nope- disconnect the shock from their lower mount- support the frame with jack stands and the axle with a jack, and then slowly let the jack down- the axle will drop to the max drop the control arms will allow and the springs will just fall out.
If they don't fall out- You MAY need to put the jack under one side of the axle and lift-which will force the other side down jsut a little more to get the spring out, repeat on the other side.
If there are rubber isolator rings ontop of them, don't throw them out- keep them to reuse!
Re-install is reverse of removal- no need to compress them.
