Power Steering

Hey Guys, can someone tell me the proper way to bleed the air from my power steering pump. Ide like to do this with minimal mess on my 68 442. Thanks!

Well, I 'm not sure If this is the "proper" way but what I do is:
1.) Fill the pump after I tighten both pressure and return lines to the gear box.
2.) Start the engine and let it run for a few seconds, then shut her down.
3.) Top off the fluid then turn the wheel back and forth multiple times.
4.) shut down car again and top off fluid once more if needed.
You can do this without shutting down the engine if you feel comfortable filling the fluid while the motor is running, just a little safer to do it while it's off though . I've never had any issues doing it this way the many times i've done it

Like Statti says,
  • Jack up front wheels,
  • roll steering wheel lock to lock, over and over again,
  • refill (fluid may be foamy),
  • repeat.

You may not get the last bit of air out until you've driven the car a bit.
