Newbie with a '50 88

Hey everyone! I'm Mike From Princeton, Illinois; I just bought a 1950 88 4 door that I will be building another LaCarrera Panamericana race car out of.

I will building it for the original class, so I'll be using the 303, auto., with a full cage, fuel cell, and Halon fire system. Front discs were installed with Scarebird parts, front and rear sway bars.

Looking for ideas on the best way to change over the rear to tube shocks...

Also, any ideas on getting quicker steering response?

I am also looking for a set of headers.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks Much!!!

Not sure if you are still working on this issue, but moved it here as it would likely be the best place to get accurate info on it.

On my '50 coupe I welded a 1 1/2 tube between the frame rails in front of the rear axle and made brackets to mount the shock. The lower mount I welded a flat plate to the front side of the rear housing long enough to be even with the lower control arm, and made a gusset for it. Drilled the lower hole after I found the shock that would work for me. You could make them stand straight up, mine are tilted in at a small angle.

Just wondered if you have modified your shock mounts as 64 Rocket suggested? I have a 49 model 88 with those old knee action shocks. Its all original but repair/ exact replacement is too expensive for social security reciepients.. I would like to drive around in a boat but not an aircraft carrier! I am looking for a reasonable cost modification that would put some decent shocks on my 49 without butchering it up totally. Good luck on the racecar, I just want to drive 55 (mph)... ha! Ha!

Thanks for the information, I'll take a better look and see how to do that. I assume the 1 1/2" bar was behind the axle?
