Improvements for my 1950 88 handling wanted

I want my 1950 88 club coupe to handle as if I were in control and not the bumps and twists in the road. I want to feel connected, safe, and sporty. I am interested in replacing the factory shocks and springs with updated equipment but I am not sure what "total package" parts are needed and who to purchase them from. Anyone with experience doing that on this model?

First off what type of tires are on the car now. Bias ply tires will catch every grove in the road especially if your front end isn't up to snuff. There are rebuilders out there that will rebuild the old knee action shocks back to original condition. Have you checked to see if your shocks have fluid in them? If dry it could be a lot of your problem. If you want to change over to modern tube shocks much adaption fabrication will be needed but all of this has been done for years.... Tedd

You might be surprised to know how many knee action shocks guys drive regularly are out of oil. Makes a big difference especially in rebound, use shock oil only or fluid will leak past seals.

Check with Bill Ehrsam in Sylvania Ohio - He was offering larger brand new front and rear sway bar kits for 1949-53 Oldsmobile - The effect and difference over stock when driving is startling. Previously you felt like the car might roll over going around corners, after the installation the car feels like a road racer in comparison.
