Jetstar 330

Well I finally got around to pulling the numbers for the motor in my car.

The block number is 381917 and it has the #1 heads on both sides. From what I have read this should be the correct numbers for a 1964 330.

I found a couple of head bolts lodge and back of the inner fender so I had hoped that someone had changed the heads on it but no such luck.

Is there any heads that interchange on the motor?

It runs so well that I am not really looking to change anything but want to know in case something pops up.

Yes, any small block head from 1964 into the mid-late 1970's will bolt up. Depending on what compression your pistons are you'd want to evaluate what different heads would do to your compression ratio. The 1964 was the only year to use the rockers on a rail. I understand late 1964's used the #2 castings with the rockers in pairs using a bridge to keep them together. If something happens and you start down this path create a new thread to discuss it and I'm sure several members here can help with details and replacement parts.

Thank you 2blu442.

I thought there was a degree change after 65 or so? If that is true won't it mess with pushrods?

Actually, ANY Olds V8 head (SBO or BBO) from 1964-1990 will bolt up (yes, the later heads with 1/2" head bolts will bolt up with no work involved). As noted, the chamber size can vary, depending on the year. Obviously BBO heads have larger ports that require certain intake manifolds with enough meat to allow port matching. The 7A heads from the 1985-90 307s have tiny exhaust ports that are different from any other SBO head. The 260 heads also have oddball ports, but they are only good for doorstops anyway. Even diesel heads will bolt up if you want to REALLY up your CR (that's a joke, but they will bolt up).

The two things that are different about 1964 heads are the one-year-only shaft-mounted rockers and the lifter bank angle. The latter can require the pushrod holes in the head to be opened up and may require a slightly different pushrod length.
