68 Non AC 350 TVS?
68 Non AC 350 TVS?
I am in the final stages of finishing my 68 Non AC Cutlass. I have a copy of the Service Manual stored on my phone. I do have a question about the thermostatic vacuum switch, or the lack thereof.
Since my car is non AC, did it even use a TVS? There is a plug on the driver's side of the intake where I have seen the temperature warning switch installed on some cars. The passenger side has an opening where I have seen the TVS usually installed on some cars. According to my Service Manual, only AC 350's used a TVS. Is the passenger side hole where the temperature warning switch should be installed on my motor, and the driver's side hole should remain plugged?
Also, if my motor doesn't use a TVS, where do all the vacuum lines go. If someone has the page number in my Service Manual that shows a non AC 350 vacuum diagram, I would appreciate a reference. I am probably just overlooking.
As always, thanks for the help!

Get a copy of the assembly manual from wildaboutcars.com. Section 6-0. And no, there is no TVS on a non-A/C car
I doubt you're going to be able to read it on your phone though

IIRC, the temp lamp switch is on the driver side coolant port of the intake manifold, the passenger's side coolant port is plugged. This is how its on my 2-bbl 350 (you didn't state if your car is a 2- or 4-bbl, they might be different).
There's only about 5 vacuum lines on a non AC 350 in a '68. The distributor connects to a port on the pass-side front of the carb (2bbl), the vacuum modulator on the trans connects to a mainfold port in front of the carb, the air cleaner connects to a manifold port behind the carb, the brake booster connects to another, larger manifold port behind the carb, and the PVC hose connects to the back/bottom of the carb.

This is the vacuum line configuration (upper left) for the auto 350 without A/C. It shows 2 Bbl but I'm fairly sure it's the same for 4 Bbl. I'm still checking but wanted to post this to get you going

For the 4 Bbl I'm guessing there's a typo because the 654 auto motor isn't shown in the detail in the rectangle but the title of the page is "Engine Vacuum Hoses (4 Bbl Carb Exc. A/C & Y72)" . Your detail would be in the lower right

It would help to have this page because it adds the location of the vacuum elbow for the air cleaner hot air valve. If you're looking to return the car to it's correct factory vacuum hose routing or even if you're just trying to get something to work you really need to pick up or download the Assembly Manual. It basically tells you everything.
Thanks for the replies. Yes, my car is a 2 bbl.
I have an assembly manual. It's a copy of a copy of a copy.... it's difficult to read.
I don't have to find a TVS for my car. I bought a temperature sender (temperature warning switch?), and it has two blade connections on top. My plug is for a single connection. Do I have the wrong temperature sender?
Thanks again for all of the help.

I know the rallye pack is a single. I'm pretty sure the dummy light is too. Do you have a wiring diagram?
