SBO 350 GM educational motor.

recently while working at a school i received a 76 4bbrl 350 with a tag that says donated by gm for educational purposes only. Just wondering if it special in any way and if anyone around this site has heard of such things? thanks

oh and this engine came on a run stand with a cat and shorty exhaust. and the key says 1976 350 code TW?

I think John had one of them at one time, too (2blu442).
They were donated by GM to various programs, though I'm not sure what the criteria were.

I took a class on engine rebuilding at an adult vo-tech evening class. They had 6 Buick 350's on stands that were said to have been donated to the school. It was also said that the reason for GM donating them was because the block castings were porus and allowed oil to seep thru....

I took auto shop in high school in the late 80s-91, we had donations from gm. The most high tech engines were the sfi 3.8L Buicks (pre 3800). They also gave us an L-98 tpi 350. We had a 403 but never did anything with it. A kid in the class actually rebuilt his 260 in his clean 78 cutlass. Everyone told him he'd be better putting his money towards a 350 rocket or 403.
When the school is done with donated stuff, it must be destroyed & not sold as working part.

On rare occasion things may sneak away undetected after they have served their educational purpose.

A few years back there was a cutaway 394 type engine, on a wheeled stand, all painted and everything... went to the evil scrap yard. They would not let it out. Not even to the museum. Dix.

I snuck away with one and is a very good running motor. Just not sure if I.should open it up to verify that it is worth building up just in case?
