Could someone tell me how to adjust the accelerator pump on a 1972 Rochester 2 Jet carburetor?

 

On my 55, you bend the little rod that pushes the accelerator pump down from the linkage. There is a spec for the distance from the top of the fuel bowl to the center of the end of the rod... 15/16" seems to ring a bell but I can't remember it with certainty right now. Hopefully it was the same in 72, its practically the same carb. Just be ready because if its not set up similar I'm pretty much talking out of my *** right now... Good luck

In general, it involves backing out the throttle stop completely, holding the throttle completely closed, measuring the distance from the top of the air horn ring to the top of the pump rod (a dimension which I am not sure of, but it is usually in the 1-11/32" to 1-3/8" range), and bending the pump rod to make it correct. If you are uncertain about how to do it correctly, don't have a chassis service manual for your vehicle, don't feel like doing the research on-line or in a library, don't have a knowledgeable friend or relative, the best way probably would be to buy a carburetor repair kit for your carburetor. It will show you how to do it, show the correct dimension, and usually provide a "tool" to make the measurement; generally under $20; your time or your money. Best wishes.

 

Most 2-jets have two holes in the arm that actuates the plunger. you will get a bigger shot with the rod in the inner hole.

 

Really? I always thought it was the top hole.

Using a stiffer spring or shimming the spring will help give you a bigger shot too.

I thought we were talking about Q-Jet 4bbl carb. doh
