350 rocket 1971

Hi! I have that engine and i would like to know couple things about it: How much power it has? 7A heads, cleaned and sanded etc, headers and howard cam, 204/214 @ .050 and 750cfm qjet and olds _ 16 _ intake. ? Engine builder says 300hv and 500nm, true? Is that good engine? Mild cam? Second question: _ 16 _ intake or edelbrock performer which is better? Engine is on light a-body cutlass.

OK, 500 nm (about 370 ft-lb to the rest of us) is probably about right. Are the heads 7A or 7A? These are different castings. The 7A heads were used on the 1985-90 roller cam 307 motors and have tiny ports that are not conducive to building horsepower. The 7A heads were used on 1972 350s and are perfectly good small block Olds heads.

If by "5" intake you mean the aluminum A5 intake, that's not even good as a doorstop. It's designed only to match the tiny ports on the 7A heads. If you really have the 1972 7A heads, definitely get rid of it and use a Performer or Performer RPM.

Performer or Performer RPM will bolt right on if you have 7a's.

What's the gear, tranny, stock converter? What are your intentions? Gotta know that before we recommend a cam.

For your combination that cam on a tighter lobe sep would have been better but it doesn't really matter now.

Torque number is probably wrong. I've had my 71 350 (has # 7 heads) on the dyno once, after installing the Edelbrock (Phoney) Power Package. Highest TQ #s at the rear wheel was 260.

It was the 397 HP Power Package from many years ago. As far as guessing HP & TQ, add the usual losses of 15-20 percent.

Are you serious ??
I wonder what the hell is in my 1970 350's rebuild then.
I dyno'd out at ~240hp/325ft lbs @ the wheels.

Only thing I know is I have an RPM intake, #6 heads,
updated valvetrain, and a 750cfm edelbrock that's
dumping too much fuel in. But no idea what cam.

"You have to remember not all dynos are created equal." x2...

There is a great article on this in last months Hot Rod magazine!

I am not familiar with the 16 intake. Is it an Olds factory production piece? Is it cast Iron, or Aluminum?

From your references to hv and nm, I am guessing you are not in the states, correct? Where in the world are you?

hehe, your lanquage is fine, and better than many Americans! I will be so glad when gas settles down! Ugh!

If your intake is aluminum, keep it. There aren't many options for Olds 350 intakes, and the biggest advantage seems to be the weight savings versus cast iron.

Opinions on the EGR vary, and i don't know much about them. my 71 doesn't have egr. If the car it's going in is a 71, you can block that space with a simple plate. Many places sell them.

"Egr is plated!" - excellent

Fueling up here in Maine is between 3.25 and 3.75 per gallon (close to $1 per litre) Doestnt sound too bad to you I'm sure, but we are used to something closer to $2.50 per gallon, and it seems headed to $4.00 if things don't settle down in the mid-east.
