My radiator is ready to be replaced, but what do I have? Is it a 2 core or 3 or 4? Is there a way to tell by looking? Also what is the best replacement aluminum or brass? Thanks for the help.

 

Not an expert, but I just had my 4-core rebuilt & did some study...

Pop the filler cap (cold, of course) and look inside with a flashlight. On mine I could count the rows of cross tubes. You can also measure the thickness of the core and that will tell you.

You have a few options..depending on what you have now, how original you want, and how many $$ you want to spend...
- Have your old one re-cored - May be tough to find a 'real' radiator shop and may be kinda $$, but you'll still have your original when done. $200-$400 depending on what you have/need
- Get a OEM / aftermarket replacement - ~ $150 +
- Spring for one of the expensive Harrison repops ! - $600+

Not sure on the AL vs. brass/copper being 'best'.... Hopefully some others will chime in...
