I have a 74 olds 350 block, I know the bore when new was 4.057. At what measurement would I go bore instead of just a hone? The block has high comprsn pistons and I am on a budget, the cost of new pistons and boring pushes my budget costs a bit. I would like to save some of that money for a new rear end. Any help is appreciated.

It depends on the bore size and wear and how much needs to be honed out to true it up. If the bore gets "big" then you will have too much piston/cylinder wall clearance and the ring end gaps will be over spec. It really depends on the mileage and condition of the block, but in most cases, budget in boring and new pistons. Yes, you can dingleberry hone it and re-ring, but if the bores are not decent, you will lose ring seal.

Measure and tell us, CaptJim should know. He is a mechanic and works at a machine shop. If it looks good, dingle berry hone and measure.
