Tube in intake?

Hi all,
I was replacing my intake gasket and I found this tube in my #5 cylinder intake port in the head. It seems like it was literally just sitting in the port and feeling around I don’t feel any threads for it to screw into. Judging by the fact it’s covered in a thick layer of carbon it must’ve been sitting there for awhile. Anyone know if it’s actually for anything and leave it in or should a leave it out and seal everything up?

Just did some digging and I think it was the Egr tube in the intake. Don’t know how it ended up there but I’m glad it didn’t actually destroy anything.

Those are the EGR tubes that allow exhaust gas to flow into the intake when the EGR valve opens.

I'd clean up the threads, then put some blue loctite on both of those bad boy tubes, reinstall them, and call it a day.

Yes it is an egr orafice to help regulate egr flow. If your egr valve is disconnected it is not necessary. In the interest of even airflow I would either reinstall it or plug them both off with a flush mount NPT allen plug.

If you want to use a thread locker I suggest Locktite 2422 Ultra High Temp good to 650*F.

Wow, the interesting thing is how did it unthread and make it's way into the #5 intake port? My guess is it happened when intake manifold was assembled on assembly line. Worker dropped it down in by accident? OOPS! "Oh well I'll just let it go and hope no one notices..... "
