Usually I'm just a spectator to this forum, but I can't find an old page for this problem. I've just about finished up on my 2-bbl rebuild for the '70 F85, and I noticed the linkage between the choke pulloff and the thermostat was gone. Between all the years of this carburetor's production I can't seem to find the right piece on the web. Does anyone know where I can find this piece, or is there a cad file I can use to make one on my own?

The car ran ok without it before, but I like to do these jobs all the way through. Any help would be appreciated

In the past two weeks or so someone was advertising a complete 2bbl carb for sale. It may have the part you need.

 

That part will have to come from a parts carb.

 

It might be the only part you can’t buy.

Thanks for the tip on that carburetor for sale, it looks a lot cheaper than the ones on eBay

 

FYI, 7042156 is from a 1972 Olds 350 with AT. The official name for that part is "choke lever" and the P/N is 7038980. That particular P/N was only used on 1970-73 2GCs on Oldsmobile motors.

I got your msg that you are interested in my 2bbl Rochester.

I could sell you my carb, but you would be paying about $50 just to get the choke lever you need, when you could maybe get it for a lot less from a rebuilder.
Also, removing the choke lever from my carb would turn it into a parts carb, when (as far as I know) it's fully functional right now, but would need a rebuild.

Another thing I could do to help you -- I can take photos of the choke lever and give you dimensions. From that you could possible just make one 'by hand' or could possible generate a CAD drawing for it.

Let me know what you think. I'm willing to help if I can.

I would hate to toss a perfectly good carburetor. I appreciate your offer for help!

What would help me the most with making my own would be a tracing of the outside of the piece and a dot in the center of each hole. A one inch line on the same page would also aid me with scaling it properly. I have the other linkages, so I can find the diameter of the holes on my own.

 

If your still needing this piece I may have a parts carb. I didn't post sooner as I thought you had sourced what you needed. John

Here's a photo of the part with reference scale. It is magnetic, so probably mild steel (not stainless or aluminum).
It is .064" thick, which is about 15 gauge mild steel sheet stock. It is flat.

Note that the Choke shaft mounting hole has flats on opposite sides. I have to use drill bits to estimate hole size --
the smaller hole is bigger than 1/8" and smaller than 9/64" (so approx 3.4mm). The bigger hole is bigger than 5/32" and smaller than 11/64" (approx 4.2mm).

Let me know if this works for you. If you still want to get my 2GC carb to cannibalize, I'll sell it to you.
