Distrib Vacuum Control Switch QUESTION

Hi all.
So a basic tune-up has lead to me checking EVERYTHING. I'm finding that many of my vacuum lines are really bad, so I'm replacing them one-by-one. Which lead me to the distributor vacuum control switch. (see pict from manual below).

My question is, how often do these actually go bad? AND, where can I get a replacement?? Rockauto has one, but it doesn't have the two connectors at the top. (pict below)

Thoughts one this?

I'm making myself crazy by replacing one thing, then the next, then the next... Just wanted to do a tune-up. Ha!

If it were me, I would bypass that all together and run the distributor off of manifold vacuum.

Agreed. That switch is an emission control device that prevents vacuum advance until the engine is at operating temperature and the transmission is in third gear. Bypassing it will allow the engine to run more efficiently.

If you really want a replacement, I think the only option is a used one. I have seen them for sale but be prepared to spend a lot of cash for one.

Sounds good! I'll do it.

Should I remove the switch all together, OR just the dis advance hose and plug that port.

You can just remove the vacuum hoses. If you want a cleaner look, remove the switch and install a pipe plug. Or possibly install a temperature gauge and put the sending unit in the now available port.

Quite an interesting piece of work. Controls timing in many different modes. Well engineered. Better than slapping a smog pump on it.

I decided to just replace all of the vacuum lines and keep the switch in place. I'm not totally sure where all of the lines go off of this switch?? I can't in good conscience just pull them all off and plug where they went. When I have time, I'll go through my manual and track them all down.
