H pipe on an Olds 260 with dual exhaust?
H pipe on an Olds 260 with dual exhaust?
Since I added the 2004R to this beast it is less than desirable in the hills, constantly kicking down, sounds like death is coming soon at 4000 rpm. I could pull through the hills with 2.78 gears without much effort with the 3spd. Would an H pipe help enough at peak torque, which is super low, to be worth the effort? I added the Ignitor 3 module and will add the Accel Supercoil along with an inch taller tire, which won't help the issue. Dyno tests seem to prove torque gains in my rpm range but how much will be gained on a 120hp and 220 ft/lbs motor, any noticeable amount? If I can gain 5 ft/lbs, it is still something. Maybe I answered my own question.
Actually the 2.78 gears are in the 70S and I am wondering if the 88 Cutlass is a few hundred pounds heavier. It currently has 3.42 gears and the same size tires were on the 70S with the 2.78 gears. Not looking for miracles .
So put the shift lever in D instead of OD when in the hills. The gear ratio is the same 1:1 as third in your old trans. There should be no difference at that point. Alternately, is your TV cable adjusted properly? Second in the 200-4R should be a tad bit steeper than in a three speed as well.
Yes, I actually had to modify the TV cable with the Dualjet and the stock Qjet bracket and cable. I always used a Transgo shift kit with the better shift springs. It shifts into OD and locks up between 40 and 50 mph. I seriously considered adapting the Qjet with the Dualjet's primary rods and a Performer or SP2P intake but that is a lot of work. And the Dualjet runs very good as well so I will leave it. The car is aitting and I have time to brain storm. So I am thinking Accel Supercoil, H pipe and the taller 225/70R14 BFG's to both help drop rpm's and put the speedo bang on.
