Thoughts of turning my 70 into a cruiser instead of a street/strip machine

Here are my thoughts. I have the great running Olds 260 leaks nothing and has surprisingly decent power with dual exhaust. I am parting out my 88 CSC, so the Stratus fans will go on with the adjustable flexalite controller in place of the engine driven fan, this controller allows manual override and I will get an extra board for it. I also upgraded to a 10 DN alternator that is supposed to put out 51 amps at idle and 82 amps at cruise, definitely better than the one it replaced. I will carry the old alternator, spare voltage regulator, along with the mini starter off my 350. All's will carry an extra distributor for piece of mind. I may upgrade to the ignitor module in the HEI. I also will be putting in the 2004R from the 88 CSC. The Dualjet has the right linkage with bracket still on it for the 200C, should work perfect. I also have the TCI lock up kit and the right speedo gear. With the 2.74 first gear and the 2300 flash stall, probably more like 2000 behind the 260, should add pep. It will put cryuising rpm at 1475 rpm at 60 mph. I will probably drive more like 70, should get unreal mileage. If I change to 3.90 gears it only goes up to 2050 rpm. That will just leave the Ebrake cables, will see what I can do. I also plan on adding the 78 cruise system I put on th 88, has a dash push button switch. I am also comnsidering a 4.3 V6 TBI set up. The local yard has Astro vans, no doubt I could get computer and all.. He also has a Caprice, almost positive it has a CCC 307 complete, so that would be the distributor I need. I would just need an adapter plate, might have to make my own or rework a Qjet one for a Dualjet. I also would need the speedo to VSS signal adapter, around $100. Depends if I would actually gain mileage and power. It should run better with the tiny stock 260 cam than the 204/214 cam in the Olds powered 4x4. I would add at 20 base timing, if not 30, this 260 loves timing. The V6 has the same lazy timing curve. The V6 should have close to the right fuel curve both being 4.3 liters. I figure 350 cfm for the Dualjet vs around 500 cfm for the TBI should some power and maybe a little mileage. Plus I can put a better air cleaner on it. Since it only needs 15 psi, a good inline pump like Holley TBI pump or maybe a Walboro pump mounted below the fuel tank should work. Still on the fence for EFI, the Dualjet should easily pull mid 20's with OD, maybe more. I am also taking the mechanical gauges off the 88, fixing the fuel sender, adding in a return line since the 260 pump is just plugged off, plus I want one and doing the front brake shoes this winter. I really want to put miles on this car next summer.

Why not both ??? My old 350 ran 13.8's and it had a mild towing cam and 3.42 gears. get in it and drive anywhere. That engine is now in my dads car. Even my current 355 i can drive it anywhere and have been able to. Why wouldn't a street strip car be a cruiser.

I am pulling the 350 out the 88 CSC, Mark is doing a custom cam for it, still owe him half. With 9.5 to 1, ported 2"/1.625" #6 heads, with a bigger custom cam, it should really move. I also want the Dr Dan special 2800 stall with 2004R and 3.90 posi in my type O. I will wait until I can afford a Holley Sniper EFI before I install the 350. Anytime my Wife had to drove my car, it ran like *** for her. I also need a user friendly shifter or need to get the GN governor, auto shifts at 4200-4500 rpm. I will put the 3.90 posi in next winter, stupid Dakota is eating up all my money, magnum head or heads are cracked or it would be this winter. I know guys have claimed 28 US mpg out of the 260 5spd combos with the stock highway gears, 30 Imperial highway is my goal. It should be very possible since the T50 had a .84 OD vs a .67 OD with my 2004R. Just not rushing myself and redoing the back seat, head rests and package tray are top priority to me, this car is my enjoyment machine.

I will probably skip the EFI till I add the 350 with the Holley Sniper. Yes believe it or not the 260 isn't that horrible, sure the dual exhaust helps a lot as with power and sound too. A slightly better first gear and higher stall will also help the gidde up and 1475 rpm at 60 mph will be ridiculous.
