Just bought a sweet 215

This one is actually a Buick but I'll likely rebuild my extra olds 215 and put these speed parts on it. It came out of a bonneville car. With the deal I also got a brand new crower billet stroker crank and a dry sump oil pan. I'll post more pics and info when I get it.

Only thing more I could have asked for would be a magneto but I'm not complaining in the slightest. Should have the engine by the end of the week

Hmmm.. I wonder if it would be narrow enough to fit in a Miata? Sorry guys I'm just a little obsessed with a Miata build.....A 215 with a 4 speed could be fun.... Tedd

I've actually seen threads with guys talking about 215/rover swaps into a Miata but never read into it to see if someone has done it. I'm not into Miata or any foreign cars much, just not my style.

I was actually just looking for the intake and found this whole engine for sale with the extra parts and just couldn't pass it up. Should be picking it up in the morning.

saw it over at the HAMB..just didnt want to say anything til ya had it home...cool piece

any info on that flywheel/bell adapter kit? just noticed its for a chevy style auto trans swap...

Tedd..the Miata swap is very popular...been that way for a long time..easy to do..but the mustang 5.0 is gaining..in a Miata the 5.0 is called a tiger

today they call it the Rover swap..since Rover bought the tooling and rights to the 215....theres just so much you can do with them..its never gonna be as popular as SBC swaps..but the British car swap scene is huge..Triumph TR8s have the 215 in them factory...and on and on..Rover kept working on it up to 4.6 liters up from 3.5 theres multi port injection etc..and since it all in the same engine group you can pick and choose...94 up its a cross bolted 4 bolt main..shove some 64 300 heads and it really wakes them up...its a big swap..they weigh 340 pounds dry IIRC....thats light....

when i was a kid put a 215 in a 84 S10 that i bought as a total in 86...it was a little rocket..it was built and came out of a 34 ford rod...fit well..thumped a little..only major thing i did was make a pan...i cut the pan put the sump to the back and off we went...fit right on the 2.8 mounts with almost no work.....drove it Florida from St Louis....no probs..cruised easy..a/c blowing cold...loved it...

Looks like an easy bolt-in for an MGB. Headers may even fit. Should clear the bonnet with room to spare. Slap a T-5 5-speed in it and you're golden. I'd be willing to bet its no longer a 215 inside. Its likely closer to a class break displacement if it ran Bonneville.
Run a Rover 3.5 set of heads - huge compared to a 300 set. Plentiful in junkyards - off Discoveries and Range Rovers.

You certainly could have, lucky for me he was trying to sell it long enough to give me a good deal. It has a bellhousing adapter for sbc pattern and a Buick flex plate modified to work with a Chevy converter. Haven't pulled the dry sump pan out yet but it is a polished cast aluminum piece. Also came with a McLeod mini starter. I didn't see any name or numbers on the headers but look like some good pieces. Can't wait to open it up to check the cam and rotating ***. Pulled a valve cover hoping for roller rockers but there stock

Thanks for the offer but I'm just not into 63's much. There's a rust free 63 shell, though a complete car, and 63 Jetfire, rotted out and missing all jetfire parts under the hood, near me I can get cheap. I just can't pull the trigger on a 63.

I could see doing a 63 like that, wheel wells would work better than a 62, but I'd have to get a convertible and make a fastback out of it. I didn't get much from him seems all he knows is it went 160+ in a Mercury Capri

an opel GT would be cool with that in it... AERO w no real work..

Opels used to be so expensive around here...now no one wants them..they are very light too..i put a Buick 300 in one in the 80s..pretty impressive...and was like driving a car on rails...

I don't like the front end on the gt but the rest I do like. I'll probably just hold out for another 62, I know there's a few around. I have a hard time owning non olds vehicles for some reason. I'm keeping an eye out for a set of aluminum Buick 300 heads

I've been tossing around the idea of using the stroker crank and the auto tranny adapter setup along with my Jetfire side draft to build the old lady a nice 62 she can drive. Thinking stroker, turbo/side draft with a 200r4

id look at a rover motor for her...96 up have cross bolted 4 bolt mains and they make about 20 intakes for it...and the Jetfire intake is a bolt on..it would be pretty cool.....

updated..cheap....injection side drafts delorato and on and on...the 2 bad things on them are ex mani's and heads...ya bolt 300 heads on it and you really get something...really cheap..its my next turbo project for a RHD 240z i have i think..

use the stroker crank on something old and cool..thats prob a 3K crank if ya could have one made..IF ya can even get one

read some of this..youll like it

The crank is a custom piece from crower, box had $2800 written on it, it's only from 09 I bet they'd still make one if you wanted to pay. If I did a turbo motor I'd probably use the offy single plain intake and my Jetfire carb, idk what turbo yet. I thought about a z car for this engine, had a 280 for a bit.

I'm thinking more like these, which were convertibles with a fiberglass roof grafted on.

Opened it up a bit yesterday, very clean inside. Missing two pushrods but only thing I found wrong. I'll probably tear it down to a shortblock then decide if I want to keep or sell the block and heads. Btw the hilborn intake might be for a Buick 300 as the ports are about a 1/4 inch taller and an 1/8 wider than the ports on these 215 heads

That Hillborn converted to EFI would be so cool. A set of 300 heads ported with bigger valves would make sense for the stroker crank. There is more cool intakes for these than the SBO expecially, the Hillborn intake is basically unattainable for the SBO unless someone is willing to drop serious dollars due to their rarity.

Late model Rover heads will fit that intake and block. They're so cheap I have a set decorating the wall in my garage. Core salvage motors around here go for $200 complete. Rover 3.5 = Buick 215. Rover 3.9/4.1 or 4.6 = more power same package. The 3.9 up until 1996 still had a distributor so you could go multi-carb easy, and virtually all your cool parts will fit.

I'm not going to use this block, I'm sticking with an olds 215 block with either matching heads or 300 heads. And I'm not using the stroker crank, Atleast not yet, I may use it in the future though.

Do some homework on this.
Aluminum 300 heads = rare as hell.
Rover heads = 300 heads and are plentiful. Direct bolt-on, many improvements, and they are sized to fit the manifold you just bought.

ive done a lot of research on these engines, ill admit not much on the 300 heads vs rover but ive never seen mention of any stock heads better or comparable to the 300 heads. in my reading the rover heads are comparable to 215 heads with some having a slight improvement over the 215 heads. i was also under the impression that rover heads had the same port size as the 215 heads. i used to have a line on some but that was a few years ago.

unless you stick money in a set of rover heads..the best heads you can get are 64 300 heads 4bbl..best bang for the buck..too many out there...too many proven combos..

theres always 4 or 5 sets on ebay..and 300 is about max dollars.not hard to get..not even slightly hard to get..its the 64 4bbl intake..those are hard....but since the edelbrock came out even those are cheaper..more reasonable..

i have a lead on a stick shift 215 apart with a ton of stuff...bell flywheel etc...cheap..and i am not interested..

I pulled the cam out, erson tq20h. think I'll put it, along with my performer intake, in my extra olds 215 I've been holding on to. Looks like they either made a sleeve or cut a hub to make a piece to seal the snout.

there is no provision for an oil filer like stock in the front cover. there is a line comin out of the cover but it looks like it deadheads at the block, there are also two fittings one was used for oil pressure gauge at one point and there is a plug in the other. i was figuring it used a remote mount oil filter setup but with that one line seemingly at a dead head with the block im unsure. any ideas?
