Hello. I am at the point where I am going to replace my oil pump and pickup and screen as a "MAW" but since I don't weld, I was thinking of looking for one with a bolt on screen. Any suggestions for part numbers and brands? Is there a reason NOT to get a bolt on screen? Should I even be thinking of replacing the oil pump and pickup as a MAW or is that silly?

Used these several times with good results and bolt-on pickup from Rocket Racing

 

I just recently bought a bolt on pickup screen from Rock Auto #S22FHVS.

I dont like the pressed on screen. I hear stories that they do fall out and while you are driving the oil pump wont pump the oil and it will damage your motor.

 

Melling has these as well. I agree that a press fit would make me nervous without a tack weld.

And would you agree that this is a component that should be replaced at 170,000 miles while it's already out or do oil pumps rarely fail?

 

Its already out, change it for a peace of mind.

 

Another point of view.
How many guys actually know of an OEM Olds oil pump failure?
How many guys actually know of the press in tube actually falling out?

I bet if you take that oil pump cover off and inspect the gears and bore you will find them in surpisingly good shape.

Can't beat OEM parts if still usable. That new pump is from china you decide.

I always reuse them after inspection and have never had a problem.
