Won't start when cold

'72 350 with Rochester 4BBL. Recently rebuilt. Here's the problem. It won't start after sitting overnight without pouring gas down the carb. It'll then start and run fine. It will also restart during the day. The next morning - the same thing.

I replaced the fuel filter with one that has the small valve in it. Made no difference.

The choke will set, but it doesn't sound like it's getting any gas when I crank it. If I pump it a little or a lot, it makes no difference - it won't start.

Any ideas?

First, do what Ace said. Check it first thing in the morning before poring gas into it and again after you get it running. If you don't get a shot of gas first thing but do get it afterward it might be leaky bowl plugs.

Q-jets are notorious for leaky bowl plugs and it's normal to seal them during a rebuild. If whoever rebuild it didn't know to seal them, it could be the problem. Sometimes when the carb is cleaned by soaking in a bucket of cleaner, it can start those plugs to leaking when they didn't before.
