valve train noise

Okay it seems like an eternity since I have been trying to diognose my engine noise. I have the 1964 olds 330 and had a lifter noise. I pulled the intake and found one worn lifter. I bought a jm 18-20 cam and lifter kit from mondello and installed it. Put it all together and now it sounds like all the lifters or rockers are making noise. I have the rocker arm shaft setup so adjusting is out of the question. There is a shim under the rocker arm shaft so I pulled that out to tighten things up, still noise. I went with a pushrod thats .040 longer to tighten things up, still noise. Have good oil pressure. Not sure what to do next. I have driven it with the noise so lifters should be good and pumped up. Broke in the cam the right way and the car runs great, just have a lot more noise than before. The cam is an Engle cam and they asked me if I measured the cam lobe base circle before I installed it. I said no, no one I know measures the base circle of a new cam. They said larger cam, smaller base circle, Mondello said the opposite and adjustable pushrods are the fix. Any ideas?????

Although I've never used them, I'd try the adjustable push rods.

Did you measure to come of with .040 over or did you just guess. You are pissing in the wind if you don't measure the right pre-load with an adjustable pushrod. Find the lenth you need and order the right rods. I would not use adjustable rods for anything but a tool to measure with. Summit sells Trickflow pushrods any any length you need cheap.

I changed the cam, wasn't happy with it anyway, better low end than the Crane it replaced but it fell on it's face too soon.

Yes measure carefully then get what you need. I've used the Trick flow pushrods many times, no issues.
